Oblivion was a project that I made to depict the oblivion the elderly with dementia experience. It shows how loved ones turn into strangers.
I did some analog experiments on the topic and decided to throw paint at photos I liked from photographer Bastiaan Woudt. I also cut up photos and put the pieces randomly together. These experiments were to explore how I could depict the confusion and oblivion the elderly experience.
The digital experiments where part of making a perlin noise flow field. After the analog experiments I thought perlin noise fields could be a good portrayal of the degenerative disease if you place it over photos of family members.
Eventually I decided to make portret photos of a family in conversation. I put a perlin noise field on top of the photos so the family members fade away.
